Description:
The wood really set the tone for the design of this desk. 2″ thick and 6′ long with some amazing color and figure. We had some thoughts for the design but ended up turning our summer intern, Chris Penland, a Kansas State University Architecture student, loose on the design of the base. Chris invested the majority of the time and energy that it took to plane the slab down to a flat surface. While he was planing it down we came a cross a bullet that was lodged in the trunk, we jokingly wondered if it was from a Civil War battle which became the inspiration for the photoshoot. Hand cut Curly Maple Butterflies were inserted to help resist the larger cracks that were forming. All other cracks, knot holes, etc were filled with molten Bismuth to resemble the Lead Bullet that was removed.
