The Shelby Herrick Salon is located on the ground floor of the newly constructed Woodside Village Apartments. The original space was tall and narrow so it was our goal to bring the scale of the volume down to a more human and intimate scale. An angular ceiling greets the customer at the front door and undulates all the way to the back of the space where it folds to form the second floor mezzanine. A series of coves around the ceilings make them appear as if they float above your head. The blackened steel rod sculptural elements help screen the activities behind while allowing natural light to filter through. The sculptures sway with the movements of the salon and evoke a sense of taming loose strands into an ordered pattern. The left side of the space houses the serene and calming spaces which are painted blue and tucked under a lower ceiling. The custom black stained white oak cabinets were also designed, fabricated and installed by Studio Build.
At this private office, we were asked to create a hidden oasis meant to entertain friends and clients. The result was one of our favorite challenge's to date. The bio-metric thumbprint lock releases a section of of the custom baltic birch plywood bookshelf to reveal a private "speakeasy". We must say, this was an awesome idea and we can't wait to do it again!

A friend and colleague designed these minimalist cubes for one of their clients. Studio Build's fabrication team did a great job of collaborating with the designer and owner to ensure the finished product met everyone's expectations. These maple plywood boxes are maneuverable, and provide a variety of display options.

From 2008 - 2012 we moved our office and shop to various locations around Kansas City. We finally settled into a building located in the heart of the crossroads arts district of Kansas City. Three of us shared an 10' x 12' wood paneled office that hadn't been touched since the early 80's. In February of 2015, we decided that we wanted to stay here rather than move again. This office solution is the result of many hours of dedication and hard work by our entire staff. Over the last 20 months we slowly added components and are pretty excited to share the final product. A 5' x 24' shared work-space allows our team to collaborate; the 11' x 11' partitions provide ample storage for awards, books and material samples; we designed, fabricated and installed 30' of custom cabinetry that showcases our style of kitchen casework as well as provides additional storage. Last but certainly not least, the custom ping pong table encourages friendly competition with all of our neighbors during friday happy hours.

For the last 15+ years this space was a staging / lounge for a bus line. The bones of the building were quite nice but it was in desperate need of some new life. The building owner put us in touch with the fabulous owners at Ladybird Style Lab and the rest is history. Studio Build designed the new layout and provided the some of the furnishings to help transform this space into a modern backdrop that allows Ladybird's clients to be the focal point while in the space. We were delighted to be a part of the transformation of this space.
Eleve challenged us to present some idea's for their need to display and store their custom made dance wear. Our design team provided a solution that is unique while allowing the space to be completely flexible. The baltic birch plywood was CNC cut and accented with white back panels to provide a neutral back drop for Eleve's merchandise. The displays, reception furniture and dressing rooms were all fabricated in a manner to allow it to be dis-assembled, flat packed and moved to another location if necessary.
